In the Western World, tradition dictates that the woman wear the ring on the fourth finger of the left hand. Some say that this practice can be attributed to the Romans who considered that finger to be the vena amoris or vein of love, going straight to the heart.

Some prefer to surprise their loved one with the ring when they pop the question during the momentous event called the proposal. Others prefer to go shopping for an engagement ring together. Whatever the case, a lot of thought and effort go into picking out the perfect engagement ring.
